Star Soot Deposit Remover

Find out more

Star Soot Deposit Remover is a solid, furnace-applied treatment designed to reduce soot and combustion deposits within boiler and exhaust systems during normal operation.

Formulated from a blend of mineral salts, including ammonium compounds, it acts as both a slag modifier and combustion catalyst. When introduced into the furnace, it alters the structure of soot and carbon deposits, converting them into a dry, friable ash that can be more easily removed through normal soot blowing.

Suitable for use in boiler furnaces, superheaters, economisers, air heaters, and exhaust paths, regular application helps maintain cleaner heat transfer surfaces, reduce fouling, and support more efficient combustion.

Each stick contains approximately 0.5 kg of product for controlled and consistent dosing.

Benefits

  • Reduces soot and slag deposits by converting them into dry, friable ash that can be more easily removed through normal soot blowing.
  • Helps reduce cold-end corrosion by limiting the build-up of acidic combustion deposits on heat exchange surfaces.
  • Supports improved heat transfer by keeping surfaces cleaner and reducing insulating deposit layers.
  • Helps maintain boiler efficiency by promoting more consistent combustion conditions.
  • Reduces manual cleaning requirements and associated maintenance time.
  • Can be applied during normal operation, avoiding the need for shutdown when handled in line with onboard procedures.
  • Supplied in convenient stick form for simple, controlled dosing.

Determine the required quantity of Star Soot Deposit Remover based on the daily fuel consumption per boiler (see dosage table below).

Oil consumption tonnes/day 20 40 60 80 100 120 140 160 180
Dosage kg (powder) 1 2 4 6 9 12 14 16 18
Number of sticks 2 4 8 12 18 24 28 32 36

Introduce the appropriate amount into the hottest part of the furnace or combustion zone using one of the following methods, in line with vessel procedures:

  1. Open a boiler peephole or furnace door and introduce the required number of sticks into the furnace.
  2. Remove the burner and introduce the required number of sticks through the burner housing into the furnace, then refit the burner.
  3. Where a dosing injector is fitted, add the contents of the stick to the injector and direct towards the hottest area of the flame.

No shutdown is required, allowing treatment to be carried out during normal operation when handled in accordance with onboard safety procedures.

For oil-fired boilers, dosage will vary depending on fuel consumption, operating conditions, and level of fouling (see table).

For coal-fired boilers, apply approximately 3kg of Star Soot Deposit Remover per 30 tonnes of coal consumed per boiler over a 24-hour period.

For best results, apply daily immediately after soot blowing.

This product should be handled using appropriate PPE. Avoid inhalation of dust and contact with eyes. Ensure adequate ventilation and refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet for full handling, safety, and environmental guidance.
