Meet the team – Amy Holt

Behind every smooth service visit, there’s someone making it happen... meet Amy, our Safety Service Manager

Q. Describe your job – what does a typical day involve?

“I manage our busy safety service department, a group of 12 technicians from our four sites – Birkenhead, Glasgow, Falmouth, and Southampton – as well as an admin team of three based in Birkenhead. With the help of my team, I keep the service department running smoothly.

“A typical day involves scheduling in jobs with the techs from all sites, and dealing with service enquiries any queries customers may have.”

Q. What’s something people might not realise your job involves?

“Unpredictability. You can have a solid plan on a Friday for the upcoming week ahead and, by Monday morning it’s all changed because of the wind!”

Q. How do you handle last-minute changes or emergencies?

“It comes with the territory, so staying calm is the best way to handle because chances are it will change again. I’ve been working in this industry for 17 years so I’m used to the constant changes to vessels’ schedules. The main thing is we come up with a solution that the customer is happy with – if that means attending in a different port, for example, then we’ll do that.”

Q. What’s the most rewarding part of your job?

“The most rewarding part is hearing positive feedback from customers, especially after a last-minute job. When a vessel only has a short time in port, it’s satisfying to get our technicians and transport in place, complete the work, and see the vessel sail on time.

“That flexibility and commitment to meeting customers’ needs is what’s helped build Star’s strong reputation over the years.”
