Ferry operators face more pressure than ever: stricter inspections, new technologies, and the push for greener operations…
Unplanned inspections, ageing fire suppression systems, or gaps in LSA readiness can all bring operations to a standstill. We keep our customers ahead of compliance checks through class-approved servicing and rapid turnaround support, so vessels stay on schedule, and crews stay protected.
Our teams are trusted by leading class and flag societies, and we’re experienced in aligning service visits with tight ferry operating schedules. From extinguishers and detection systems to liferafts and MES, we deliver safety assurance that stands up to scrutiny.
Hybrid and electric ferries are growing across the sector, alongside greater use of digital monitoring. While these advances are welcome, they bring added expectations for safety systems to keep pace. Our role is ensuring operators aren’t caught out – with reliable fire detection, compliant suppression systems, and servicing that adapts to changing vessel requirements.
We’ve also seen how new propulsion or battery systems can increase the importance of fire readiness and evacuation capability. By servicing safety systems alongside technical upgrades, we help operators integrate sustainability with safety, without compromise.
Downtime is costly. From fuel testing and treatment that prevents diesel bug issues, to refrigeration servicing that ensures F-Gas compliance, we help operators reduce hidden costs and keep ferries running efficiently.
We provide preventative maintenance plans tailored for ferry operators, minimising unscheduled stoppages. In emergencies, our rapid-response teams can mobilise 24/7 – from resolving contaminated fuel tanks, to restoring chilled water systems. The result: fewer delays, lower costs, and greater reliability.
Short-sea and RoPax operators face especially unforgiving timetables and constant scrutiny. Safety systems need to be maintained and upgraded without delaying services. And when emergencies do happen, the response has to be immediate.
We’re used to working in these environments. With over 100 years of collective experience, our teams understand the operational pressures unique to the ferry sector. Add to that our ongoing investment in Cralog-accredited technician training, and our customers can be confident their vessels remain compliant, safe, and sailing to schedule.
When two vessels suffered cargo hold fires within days of each other, their CO₂ suppression systems were fully discharged. Our FFE team mobilised immediately: removing, hydro-testing, refilling, and reinstalling over 260 cylinders across the two emergencies. Both systems were restored in record time, minimising downtime while ensuring full compliance and safety.
For the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company’s Manannan, we deployed new LSA Marine Evacuation System (MES) units. Installation, testing, and certification were completed during a tight port window — keeping the ferry fully compliant and ready for service without disrupting its schedule.
A working dredger was struggling with refrigeration and A/C failures. Our engineers brought onboard expertise to overhaul the HVAC systems, repairing leaks and restoring cooling with minimal disruption to operations.
